Privacy Policy

WhereHaveISeenThem is a free hobby project that lets you pick actors and find the films and shows they appear in together. This policy explains, in plain language, what data the site touches and why.

The short version: there are no accounts, no sign-up and no logins. We don't sell your data and we don't build advertising profiles. Most of what you create on the site stays in your own browser.

Who is responsible

This site is run by an individual as a personal project. You can reach us through the contact page. References to “we” and “us” mean the operator of this site.

Data stored on your device

The following is kept locally in your browser (in localStorage and a cookie). It never leaves your device and is not sent to our server:

  • Bookmarks — movies, shows, actors and saved searches you mark with the heart button.
  • Compare selection — the actors currently selected for a comparison.
  • Age confirmation — a small age_consent cookie remembering whether you confirmed you are 18 or older.

You can erase all of this at any time by clearing your browser's site data for this site.

Data processed by our server

  • IP address — your IP is used transiently to apply rate limits and protect the service from abuse. It may appear in short-lived server logs together with technical request metadata (the page requested, time, browser user-agent). It is not used to identify you and is not stored long-term.
  • Operational alerts — when the server hits an unexpected error it sends an internal technical notification (error type, a request correlation id and a stack trace) to the operator. These alerts do not contain your personal data.

We do not store profiles, search history or bookmarks on the server.

Contact form

If you use the contact form, the name, email and message you submit are sent to the operator (delivered via a private Telegram channel) solely to read and reply to your request. This information is not stored in a database, not used for marketing and not shared with anyone else. To reply we use the email address you provide.

The contact form is protected by Cloudflare Turnstile, an anti-bot check. When you open the contact page your browser loads Turnstile from Cloudflare, which receives your IP address and basic browser/device data to tell humans from bots and may set a short-lived Cloudflare cookie for the challenge. Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how the site is used (which pages are viewed and a few actions such as adding an actor to a comparison or viewing common films). This sends usage data — including your IP address, approximate location derived from it by Google, and device/browser information — to Google, which processes it as a third party. See Google's privacy policy.

Note: analytics currently load without a separate consent banner. You can opt out using the Google Analytics opt-out add-on or by blocking analytics cookies (see our Cookie Policy).

Third parties your browser contacts

To display the site your browser loads resources directly from these services, which therefore receive your IP address:

  • Google Analytics — usage measurement.
  • Google Fonts — the Roboto web font.
  • The Movie Database (TMDB) — poster and profile images are loaded from TMDB's image servers. This product uses the TMDB API but is not endorsed or certified by TMDB.
  • Cloudflare Turnstile — anti-bot check, loaded only on the contact page.

Legal basis

Where the GDPR applies, we rely on our legitimate interest in keeping the service available and secure (rate limiting, logging) and in understanding aggregate usage (analytics).

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct or erase personal data, or to object to its processing. Because we hold almost no personal data — bookmarks and selections live only in your browser, and server logs are short-lived — the quickest way to remove your local data is to clear your browser storage. For anything else, contact us via the contact page.

Children

The catalogue is sourced from TMDB and can include adult titles, so an age confirmation gates that content. The site is not intended for children and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 13.

Changes

We may update this policy as the project evolves. The “last updated” date above always reflects the current version.
